Murphey is a University of Dallas alumna. Before joining the Raider Catholic team, Murphey served as the Project Manager for the Dallas Catholic Youth Conference in the Diocese of Dallas for four years. In May 2022, she and her husband, a Texas Tech & Raider Catholic alumnus, moved to Lubbock.

Even though Murphey did not graduate from Texas Tech, she was briefly part of the Raider Catholic community as a retreatant for RA 54 & a staffer for RA 56. Even though her time was brief, Raider Catholic made an impact on her faith life & college experience.
